CMP200 - Combustible Gas Sensors

The new CMP200 open can pellistor gas sensor from City Technology has been designed to detect methane in mining applications. However it is also suitable for general applications and can detect a wide range of combustible gases up to their Lower Explosive Limit (LEL). The sensor is suitable for use in portable gas detectors and offers OEMs a small, high performance and cost effective product.

MICROpeL SensorBased on City Technology's proprietary bead chemistry CMP200 has excellent poison resistance to both H2S and silicone compounds.

Operating at 3.3V and 68mA, it's small size results in a very fast response time, typically T90 ca. 5 seconds, and excellent stability with zero drift typically less than 3% per month so ensuring stable long-term operation.

CMP200 pellistor beads are mounted in a miniature header and can which contribute to its excellent shock resistance, which is of particular importance in mining applications.

CAP06-NF - Mixed Metal Oxide Ammonia Sensor

City Technology's new CAP06-NF mixed metal oxide semiconductor (MMOS) ammonia sensor has been designed for use in fixed detection applications where there may be high backgrounds of ammonia or frequent and rapid changes in ambient conditions such as humidity and temperature.

MICROpeL SensorThe sensor is constructed by depositing a thick layer of gas sensitive material (mixed metal oxide) onto an alumina substrate incorporating a thick film heater. The mixed metal oxide sensing layer has been developed to be largely insensitive to changes in RH and temperature of the ambient environment so preventing large transients which are commonly seen with other types of sensing technology.

The CAP06-NF does not contain any filter material and consequently has a very fast response time to ammonia and very low cross sensitivity to carbon monoxide making it ideal for leak detection applications.

The sensor remains stable in continuous high background concentrations of ammonia and can be used to detect ammonia from occupational exposure concentrations (<50ppm) to LEL concentrations (4%).

Being a p-type semiconductor the CAP06-NF will "fail-safe" if there is a break in the circuit during operation.

Like all City Technology's MMOS based sensors the CAP06-NF have long operating lifetimes, usually in excess of 5 years.

CITY TECHNOLOGY GOES MICRO in sector's biggest advance for 25 years - the MICROpeLTM for combustible gases

City Technology will be unveiling their smallest sensor yet for combustible gases, at Sensor 2003, in Nuremberg on 13 May.

MICROpeL Sensor The revolutionary MICROpeLTM75 is four times smaller than any other sensor available, and also 95% lighter. Hailed as the biggest advance in sensor design for 25 years, City's MICROpeLTM75 heralds a new era in the design of fixed and portable instruments for industrial safety applications. Such instruments are used to protect personnel working in confined spaces prone to the build up of explosive gases.

The MICROpeLTM 75's flat ergonomic footprint of just 17mm2 and 4mm depth, and its enhanced 'connectivity' open whole new application possibilities for gas detection equipment OEMs world-wide. Utilising City's proven and patented catalytic bead technology, the sensor is housed in a robust plastic casing, a mere 5% of the weight of the stainless steel housing of its precursors. This factor, coupled with its small size, the novel connectors replacing former 'pin' designs, and full certification to ATEX, mean the MICROpeLTM 75 will enable the production of smaller and lighter instruments than ever before.

The MICROpeLTM, like all pellistors, employs catalytic combustion to measure combustible gases or vapours in air up to their Lower Explosive Limit (LEL). The sensor is available in two forms: the MICROpeLTM 75 measures virtually all combustible gases and vapours whereas the MICROpeLTM 75C, with added poison resistance is particularly suitable for methane, propane, butane, pentane, hexane, carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

These high specification sensors function over a range of 0-100% LEL with an operating voltage of 3.30V d.c. and a Detector Operating Current of 75 +/-5mA. The sensors' T90 Response Time is ≷5 seconds (methane) and they are linear to 3% methane. Long-term Zero Drift is typically 3% LEL methane/month.

Brian Roake, City's Sales & Marketing Director, said, 'Having been a leading innovator in the market for over 25 years, it's thrilling for City to be leading the world market in such a key development. The MICROpeLTM is the result of over 3 years R&D and is set to change the face of sensing technology. During the course of this year, we shall be bringing to market three more micro sensors, by which time, we're sure, OEMs will be keen to embrace further benefits accruing from this innovation.' City's next micro sensors to come on stream will be the MICROceLsTM, for the detection of oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide. Bulky multi-gas detection instruments will soon be replaced by lightweight, compact designs, thanks to City's micro range.

New at SENSOR 2003

MICROpeLTM 75& 75C

MICROpeL Sensor The new small, flat combustible gas sensor from City Technology. Measuring 17mm x 17mm x 4mm and weighing only 1.2g it is 75% smaller and 95% lighter than existing certified sensors. MICROpeLTM also uses a novel "slot-in" connector that offers a reliable and cost effective alternative to "pins and sockets".

MICROpeLTM is certified to ATEX and UL flame proof standards.

52CF/CO

52CF/CO Two new CO sensors designed specifically for use in flue gas monitoring applications. Using high activity electrodes ensures stable performance and low drift over the 3 year lifetime of the sensor.

The filtered version, 52CF, uses an internal filter to remove SOx, NOx and VOC's with a capacity of 150,000ppm hours.

IRidiumŪ50

iridium50 Based on the successful IRidiumŪ100, the IRidiumŪ50 is a 2 gas infra-red bench for use in exhaust gas analysers. Measuring CO and hydrocarbons the bench measures just 31mm x 40mm x 163mm and weighs 114g, making it ideal for integration into hand held analysers.

IRidiumŪ50 is designed to meet OIML Class 2.

CAP21

CAP21 MMOS ozone sensor with dual temperature operation. To provide improved baseline stability and increased operating life the CAP21 operates in a two-temperature cycle. It has a 5 second measurement period at 500oC followed by a 20 second "purge" at 600oC so giving a reading every 30 seconds.

2CF-3

2CF-3 Fast response 4 Series size carbon monoxide sensor with low cross sensitivity to hydrogen and fast response time. 2CF-3 has a T90 of <17seconds and incorporates and in-board filter to remove SO2 and H2S.

DiveceLŪ

Divecel DiveceLŪ3 and DO2 are two new oxygen sensors specifically designed for use in diving equipment. Both have 2 year operating life, are linear from 0-100% oxygen and have inbuilt temperature compensation. The DiveceLŪs have improved output stability and resistance to mechanical shock.
